Nancy Newbody’s royal arcade tour follows the titular Nancy Newbody, a fictional mill worker portrayed by Irene Lofthouse, on a short tour through the underground section of the Keighley royal arcade. Introduction: Nancy Newbody, facing the camera in historical dress and carrying a woven basket and oil lantern, filmed in a hallway of the underground arcade. Cut to another hallway, there is a bicycle propped up against the wall, Nancy is walking toward the viewer with open doorways on either side. Perspective changes to a view from one of the doorways watching Nancy walk past to the left of the screen. She stops at a door labelled ‘3’ and speaks to camera. The previous hallway with bicycle, Nancy is walking away from the camera before stopping at a small washing area and picking up a rusted copper. There is also a large metal pot, two plungers, a sink (posser), a washboard and a small brush. Nancy inspects a mangle wringer. Nancy is standing in a large, mostly empty room. There is a rotten support beam on the left of the screen and a wooden ladder behind Nancy on the right. A ladder is shown. Nancy opens a set of wooden doors with a small chain hanging from one door; the viewer’s perspective is from the room she opens into and she speaks to camera. A thin wooden bench with a saddle on top is shown. A rusted crowbar is shown, then a horse’s blinkers. Nancy lists the horse-care related items in the room. A wooden lifting trolley is shown with modern stepping stool next to it. Nancy speaks to camera. A wagon wheel is repeatedly shown. Nancy is stood in a doorway, there is a crude carving of a staircase on the door. Nancy speaks in an exaggerated Yorkshire accent. Nancy is stood by a wall with a large window, there are bars on the left half of the window and the room on the other side is larger than the others and contains a small safe manufactured by ‘J. Grove’. A view of the exit from a small barred window. Nancy is stood by a door labelled fire exit, speaking to camera. The camera cuts briefly to the hallway with bicycle and the room with the safe. Outro: Nancy speaks about the arcade above ground while walking through other abandoned rooms, at one point examining a small carved object, possibly glass. Cut to the above ground arcade with several shoppers, fade to black.
