A participatory film produced for Village Arts of a shadow puppet workshop in which children create their own puppets and tells different stories using their imagination. In-between their routines they and their workshop leader experiment with different object, designs and colour to see if it will help tell their stories.
In a darkened room a woman watches over several children as they perform with their home-made shadow puppets from behind a screen. Several different scenarios feature including a ghost-like figure and decorative head-dresses. The woman stands beside an over-head project which is providing the light. Another scene featuring a garden and puppets of butterflies, a cat, and other larger characters on poles being carried by the children. Several different lights are tested, and figures are created made from balloons for heads and jackets placed over coat hangers.
The room become noisier as more children arrive along with another woman. Some of the children sit on the floor to watch a performance in which a man provides narration to the children’s puppetry.
Coloured pens and liquids are used with the over-head projector followed by another performance with the children controlling the puppets they have created.
In another room a workshop where a boy making a puppet, around him craft material such as paper, scissors and glue. Taking his creation back into the darkened room he and several other children put on another performance.
