Entitled ‘The Devil’s 60,00 and First Birthday Party’ the play tells the story of a boy heading to the Underworld to rescue his sister from becoming the Devil’s birthday tea.
Inside a darkened community hall a compare wearing what appears to be a rabbit’s head introduces the play ‘The Devil’s 60,00 and First Birthday Party’ and introduces the audience to some of the characters who appear from behind a curtain.
The play gets underway which tells the story believed written and produced by the children involved about the Devil kidnapping the ‘Nicest Girl in the World’ in order to eat her for his birthday tea and her brother the ‘Nicest Boy in the World’ heading to the Underworld to rescue her. On his journey he meets many different characters many of whom have vegetable themed names such as the Magic Rabbits, Shirley [Bassey] Carrot and the Killer Commando Tomatoes. The production incudes several song and dance routines as well as a magic act and often takes place in and around the watching audience. All the costumes as well as the staging has been homemade by the children.
The play comes to an end with the cast getting a round of applause from the audience and the compare thanking those who assisting in the production.
