The film begins in Ripon with the town crier, George Coxon, the ancient horn blower, Tom Hawley and Eric Staples, the mace bearer, before showing the inscription on the Town Hall and the Scold's bridle. Then it is onto the Minster and the ruins of the Hospital of St Anne's. In the centre of Ripon, there is a Tudor building and the market place, the city museum and the spa baths and gardens. After a view of the River Ure comes a tour of the ruins of Fountains Abbey. The film closes with a return to the horn blower, blowing the ancient horn.
