This film shows the activities that went on at Kurkburton School between 1937 and 1940. This film shows the children taking part in sports day, swimming lessons, walking trips and school plays. A group of boys stand in a line ready to start a race. A crowd of children watch them as they begin the race. The boys run round the track together and past the finish line where the teachers stand. The girls take part in a relay race, passing the baton to the girls waiting for them. Then the boy's relay race begins. The girls stand at the side of the track jumping up and down and shouting encouragement. A teacher writes on a chalkboard the scores, the children clap and then head towards the school building. At a stadium racetrack boys are running a race as judges walk about in the inside of the ring. A group of girls take part in the high jump whilst the boys do the shot put. Two girls walk around the outside of the track as another boys race begins. At the side of the track the scores are written on a chalkboard. The children are gathered together as a man hands out the awards to the winners. A private coach pulls up next to a building and children climb off, some of them are carrying towels and the girls are wearing swimming caps. Inside the pool the children swim lengths using different swimming techniques. The children stand at the side of the pool and practice their diving skills. The children then learn lifeguard skills and how to swim with someone back to the side of the pool. The teachers stand at the side of the pool supervising the children. Down a country lane the children walk together with a teacher. The children stand outside the YHA preparing for another day of walking. The children are inside a hall on a stage performing a play. The children are dressed in costume and are performing 'A Christmas Carol'. The children also gather on stage to sing in choir.
