This amateur holiday film shows a family travelling by canal boats from Beeston to Shropshire and passing Marbury. They travel through locks, under bridges and over aqueducts. The family travel through the countryside that surrounds the canals and view many breath taking sunsets.
A narrow boat travels along the canal, which is heading for a bridge situated in the countryside as another boat approaches them from the other direction. Moored at the side of the river other boats with families pass by. At Beeston Iron Lock the family work together to travel through it along with another narrow boat. As the lock fills up the family use the key to open the gates.
As the family travel along the canal at sunset they pass under a bridge. A house with decorative beams has several cows grazing. In Shropshire the family arrive at a very large lock and they work together to pass through it, once the gates are shut the family continues on their journey. The narrow boat moves down the canal, which is lined with trees. At sunset the family have moored their boat. At dawn fields and a nearby road surround the family. Other boats are on the river with them as they travel under a bridge and through the countryside filled with sheep and cows.
The family lay out a board so that they can reach the riverbank and a pipe attached to the boat is dangled in the river to pump out water. Buildings, paths and a car travelling past the bridge they approach. The family travel over an aqueduct, down below them are fields, buildings and cattle. There is a plaque - 'Thomas Telford 1795 -1805' detailing how Telford built this aqueduct between these years out of iron. The family crosses the aqueduct as people walk along the path, which runs beside it. From down below the family watch another narrow boat cross the aqueduct. After the family have moored for the night they continue their journey under a bridge, which leads to a large dark tunnel that leads to woodland and lakes and at sunset the family moor again. Waking up to swans on the river in the morning the family pass through more locks as the gate opens another boat is waiting. The countryside of Marbury has many cows and fields.
