A Tyne Tees Television Newsview report with Jack Clarke from the County Durham new town of Peterlee. A recently academic paper sites that towns such as Peterlee will become the slums of tomorrow because of its high-density housing. Jack speaks with two local women asking if they believe this is true or not.
Over a panoramic view of the town of Peterlee featuring both pedestrians and traffic passing, Tyne Tees Television reporter Jack Clarke asks the question are the people living here happy or unhappy? This question forms part of an academic paper written by Dr Robin Best for the Town and Country Planning Association asking whether new towns like Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee will become the slums of tomorrow. Dr Best believes that high density housing such as in Peterlee are causing unhappiness.
Jack Clarke speaks with two local women. One agrees with Dr Best’s comments that buildings are built to densely, but believe the town is a happy place. The second woman comments that happiness is based as much on the people who live there as the houses themselves.
