In the front garden of the property reporter Phil McDonnell explains how gas leaking from a fractured cast-iron gas main had almost cost the lives of the family living there. Further details are provided on how the homeowner Mr James Watson was able to rescue both his wife Iris and children Gary and Beverley who were all unconscious having been exposed to the leaking gas. Outside the property stands Mr Sinclair Smith, father of wife Iris who was unharmed as he was sleeping in another room with his door closed.
