The programme also includes a filmed report on rising Country and Western star Bettina Jenkins from Hull. Title: Yorkshire Television Productions A montage featuring some of the young people who will feature in this series performing various musical instruments or dancing. Title: Sounds Good Following an introduction to the programme from Roger Greenwood and Carol Mather, a performance by the City of Sheffield Girls’ Choir of the Year of ‘Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho’. This is followed by a solo performance by 14-year-old Paula Mercer from Bradford of a song originally performed by Judy Garland in the movie ‘Broadway Melody of 1938’ entitled ‘Dear Mr Gable’. The song over and Roger comes over to speak with her about being a member of the Scala Kids of Bradford, performing with them and on her own and about her future ambitions. A filmed report follows next on rising County and Western musician 12-year-old Bettina Jenkins from Hull. She has already performed with the likes of Tammy Wynette, Boxcar Willie and The Osmonds and her parents talk about how she first started and the support they have offered her. In her bedroom beside a poster of her idol Dolly Parton Bettina explains to Roger why she likes her so much. Taken by her mother to the William Jackson Club in Hull, Bettina performs on stage the John Denver hit ‘Grandma’ Feather Bed’. Following a vox pop with some of the patrons Tina then performs on banjo ‘Foggy Mountain Breakdown’ from the film Bonnie and Clyde. Back in the studio Carol introduces pupils from Holmfirth High School near Huddersfield as they perform a musical piece entitled ‘A Tramps Outing to a Stately Home’. The performance over Carol comes over to speak with some of those taking part about performing the previous year in the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London their play on the Geoffrey Boycott Affair. They go onto to talk about their hopes for this new play. In another part of the studio Roger speaks with Jonathan Cuncliffe from Bradford. He has recently been named Chorister of the Year in a national competition and is asked about performing for the local diocese, where he gets his talent and his hopes for a record he has recorded to be release later in the year. Jonathan then performs ‘Where E’er You Walk’ from the musical drama ‘Semele’ by George Frideric Handel. Following a look at what will be in next week's programme, over the closing credits Bettina Jenkins performing inside the William Jackson Club the Dolly Parton hit ‘Applejack’.
