Title: Sounds Good Following an introduction to the programme from Roger Greenwood and Carol Mather a performance by the Sheffield Youth Festival Band of ‘Take a Letter’ featuring two boys on typewriters. Their performance over Carol comes over to speak with bandmembers Ian Kelly and Tony Basham about how the typewriter has become a percussion instrument. Next Roger introduces 17-year-old Simon Dinnigan from Sheffield who performs solo on classical guitar. Following his performance an interview about his instrument and his future ambitions as a guitarist. Simon then places a second piece. Following an introduction from Carol, a contemporary dance performance from 17-year-old Paul Liburd of Leeds, winner of the Cosmopolitan Dance Award and currently student at the London Contemporary Dance School. Following his performance Carol speaks with him about how he first started dancing and his hopes for becoming a member of the London Contemporary Dance Theatres and touring the world. Returning to Roger, he introduces the Sheffield Girls’ Choir and a performance of ‘The Wedding Ring’ featuring a solo by Claire Holt. The performance comes to an end and Roger comes over to speak with Claire about performing solo, her colleague Philippa about competing recently in the International Choral Festival taking place in Montreux, Switzerland and finally with another band member, Angela, about their future plans. Next Roger introduces 11-year-old Venetia Bigley from Sheffield who has just won a musical scholarship to Bedale School in Hampshire. She performs ‘Orientale’ by Cesar Cui on violin with piano accompaniment. Following her performance Roger speaks with Venetia about the challenge of playing such a tough piece, where she gets her talent from and on becoming a member of the National Children’s Orchestra and playing in front of the Princess of Wales. Carol comes over to join Roger and they provide details on next week's programme. Over the closing credits another performance by the Sheffield Youth Festival Band of ‘Mephistopheles’ by Shipley Douglas.
