Following an introduction to the programme by Roger Greenwood, Carol Vorderman speaks with Becky from the Scalby School Jazz Orchestra from Scarborough about performing at the Schools Prom and in Spain. This is followed by the orchestra perform the jazz ensemble Santa Anna.
Sitting at a grand piano 13-year-old Daniel Jerwood from Cottingley near Bingley reads sheet music while Roger Greenwood reads out some of his musical achievements. An interview follows with Bingley born concert pianist John Briggs about his career and what he would expect from performers like Daniel. Daniel then performs Debussy’s Golliwog’s Cakewalk. At the end of the piece Roger and John come over and speak with Daniel about his performance, how often he practices and what he wants to be when he is older.
Next Carol Vorderman speaks with Alan Simmons, a teacher at Holmfirth High School near Huddersfield about a musical he has written for his pupils about controversial Yorkshire cricketer Geoffrey Boycott. Carol then speaks with one of the boys in the production about his role before a song from the musical ‘Yorkshire Cricket Committee 1984’ is performed.
In another part of the studio Roger Greenwood speaks with Louise and Sarah from Ordsall Hall School near Retford who like to perform music using cooking pan. They talk with Roger about their ‘pan playing ensemble’ before performing one of their own compositions entitled ‘Panular Bells’. Their piece over they are replaced by Philip Redpath from Leeds plays the spoons.
Before heading over to Sheffield Polytechnic Students Union and the finals of Sounds Good Breakdance Challenge, Carol Voderman introduces a clip from the recently released breakdancing feature film ‘Beat Street’. On the dance floor at Sheffield Polytechnic Street Crew compete against Positive Force both from Sheffield with commentary provided by Martin Kelner and Winston Hazel of SMAC 19. The dancing over Martin and Winston come out onto the dancefloor to talk about the two crews and what he and the other judges were looking for in their respective performances. The crowd goes wild when Positive Force are named the Sounds Good Breakdance Challenge champions.
Back in the studio Roger Greenwood and Carol Vorderman say their goodbyes both to this episode and this series of Sounds Good. Over the closing credit a montage of the various breakdancing crews who took part in the Sounds Good Breakdance Challenge competition.
