Inside Sheffield Polytechnic's Nelson Mandela Building several large piece of graffiti art set up beside a stage. Title: Graffiti Arts Challenge Sheffield City Polytechnic March 8 1986 A large group of mixed-race teenagers stand around a boy as he draws a figure onto a large piece of canvas. Other images and names have also been written around it. At the far end a second boy is also signs the canvas. On the stage at the back of the hall two young men, one of whom is addressing the room. Several large canvases have been set up around the hall and those taking part in the challenge prepare to begin. One South Asian youth takes out several spray cans from a carrier bag. A closer look at the canvas containing all the names and tags presumably of those taking part. On stage the compare stands beside a Disc Jockey (DJ) as he plays a record, around the room those competing in the challenge begin their artworks. Crowds wonder round past various pieces as they begin to come together all while listening to the music being pumped out from the stage. Title: Soul City Artists The two teenage boys who make up Soul City Artists sit beside their artwork; in voiceover the filmmaker provide some background information on the group. Title: Death Crew The three-man team of Death Crew also sit in front of their artwork, again in voiceover the filmmaker provides some background details on the group. Title: Crime Productions The three 13-year-old members of Crime Productions sit in front of their artwork as the filmmaker in voiceover explains which member of the team came up with the design. Title: PSST Incorporated The five-member team of PSST Incorporated kneel in front of their artwork as the filmmaker gives a background on their history. Title: Chiefs No one sits in front of the artwork, but the filmmaker still gives background details on the team members. Title: Def Squad The four-man team of Def Squad incorporated sit posing in front of their artwork, again the filmmaker gives background information on the team. The tagged board in front of the main stage on which still stands the DJ playing his music. The compare addresses the crowd from the stage, a crowd gathers around waiting to hear the winners. The top three prizes are read about with the third prize going to Unique Artists, the second prize to PSST and the first prize goes to King Three. Each of the groups come up onto the stage shaking hands with those there and receiving a spray can as a prize. Title: Free Style Artists The four members of Unique Artists pose beside their artwork, the filmmaker explains why their artwork was a winner. Title: Crusaders The two members of Crusades Incorporated stand beside their artwork, the filmmaker talking about what their piece means. Title: King Three The two members of King Three also stand beside their artwork, again the filmmaker talking about who they are and what their piece means. Title: The Panel of Judges The film ends on the four man panel of judges walk across the hall and posing beside the large pieces of artwork beside the stage, presumably they are the artists.
