The sixth of seven camera rolls produced by Trade Films containing the third part of an interview with Eddie Malcolm, a member of the Durham Area Executive on the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) from Westoe Lodge recorded only a couple of days after the miners returned to work at the end the 1984-85 Miners’ Strike on the 7th March 1985.
The interview with Eddie Malcolm continues with him talking about Westoe Lodge during the 1984-85 Miners’ Strike and the response of the Trades Union Congress to the strike. He goes onto talk about the attitude of the management at Westoe Colliery since the miners went back; the sympathy for the NUM case within the National Coal Board; changes in the NUM and the emergence of a new style of union activist as well as the expulsion of Nottinghamshire from the NUM. He continues by commenting on his attitude to men who worked during the strike; and his attitude towards a new union that has been formed by Scab miners.
