The first of seven camera rolls produced by Trade Films containing the first part of an interview with Alan Cummings and Micky Hunt from Easington Colliery in County Durham. The tape was recorded on the 7th March 1985, only a couple of days after the miners returned to work following the end the 1984-85 Miners’ Strike.
Standing outside Easington Colliery with the pit wheels turning in the background the interview with Alan Cummings and Micky Hunt of Easington begins with them discussing the constituent unions of the National Union of Mineworkers within the Durham coalfield. This is followed by them talking about the morale of the men three days after the end of the strike, the tasks facing the union with regards pit closures and the threat of ‘Spenserism’ in the aftermath of the strike. Questions are also asked with regards the potential privatisation with the coal industry.
