The fifth and final camera rolls in which Ingrid Sinclair from Trade Films joins women from the Wearmouth Miners Wives Support Group as they march from Gateshead to Newcastle protesting against the cutting off by the North-Eastern Electricity Board (NEEB) of power supplies to their homes. Following their meeting with the NEEB representatives from the protest reflect on the positives that have come out of today demonstration, but many in the group have reservations.
Julie Ross and friend speaks with some of those from the protest on the steps of Carliol House about arranging payment plans to pay electricity bills following their meeting with the NEEB. Julie disagrees with some in the protesters who think the day was a waste of time, they have had publicity which is good. She continues to talk about the miner’s strike and the need to continue fighting and what she thinks have been gained today.
Julie speaks with a friend; she isn’t happy with the way some in the group have spoken to her. Around them people stand chatting while many of the protestors now sit on the Bleanch’s Travel coach parked across the road on Market Street. Julie and her friends cross the street and gets onboard as everyone waits on the bus to depart.
Everyone waves as the coach pulls away turning left onto Pilgrim Street. A placard has been left in the entrance way of the NEEB that reads ‘”Lighten Up” on the Miners’. A group of older men walk past, one point at the camera while another points at the placard. From across the road people going into the Carliol House and a group still standing outside. Nearby a NEEB shop window with various electrical items on display.
