Title: NM Area. At Greenwood Farm, Hathersage Title: Plans are being made… Standing beside a gate and track through a meadow a group of dog owners and their animals sit or stand talking. Amongst the group several children. A man with a Spaniel puppy walks up and down, the dog following his owner closely. A display of United Retriever Club certificates. Title: Ready for the Off! First Test A woman holding a notebook stands in the brush beside a stone wall. Title: Mrs M. Beattie-Scott the Judge Mrs Beattie-Scott stands beside a Retriever owner as their animal races into a nearby wooded area searching around trees for an object. The dog leaps back over the wall to its owner with an object in its mouth. A small group of people come over as a second dog rushes through the undergrowth looking for something. A man walks past carrying a green object found by his dog who follows beside him. Several other dogs look through the underground looking for an object watched over by their owner who use hand signals to help the dog, two judges make notes in their pads. Title: Second Test. Over the water… A Retriever swims across the River Derwent, climbs the far bank before swimming back to its owner with. Several other dogs swim across the river collecting an object from the other side before returning to its owners watched by a crowd sitting along the rivers edge. Two men wade across the water, one empties water from his shoe on the other side. Title: NM Area. Break – for a Picnic Lunch Around a large open space people sitting at tables or on the ground eating a meal. A crowd of people come along a track from Greenwood Farm, many of them have dogs. Title: Final Test – and a Small Wall! Retrievers and their owners line up a short distance from a steep stone wall, one at a time each of the dogs races up to and climbs over the hunting through the overgrowth on the other side looking for an object. Finding it the climb back over the wall to their owners. A crowd watches from nearby, some are judges making notes onto small writing pads. A woman poses for the camera along the track back to Greenwood Farm, two older women also stop and look at the camera. More people make their way back towards the farm. Title: NM Area. Time for Tea and Trophies At dusk in the garden of Greenwood Farm a crowd of people stand around chatting over drinks, some of their Retriever sit resting on the grass. A man smoking a pipe wonders around handing out more drinks. Three women hand out trophies and prizes to winning owners followed by a woman giving a speech after which a man holds up a framed picture. People go back to chatting and the film ends with a Retriever silhouetted against the setting sun. End title: The End
