The felling and removal of a tree from the edge of a field on Thirkleby Warren farm near the village of West Lutton in North Yorkshire is recorded by farmers wife Bernice Ward. After attempts to pull the tree down with ropes and blocks appears to fail, a chainsaw in brought in to finish the job. The tree down the trunk is towed away by a tractor while the loose branches are burned in the field by farmworkers.
On a hillside two men work to fell one of several trees that line the edge of a field. They use ropes and blocks to try and pull down some of the larger branches.
A tractor is brought in and parks beside a stack of logs. A man starts a chainsaw which he then uses to cut down the tree which eventually collapses into the field. The tree is attached to the tractor and driven away while the men collect in the loose branches burning them on a fire in the middle of the field.
