North Yorkshire farmers wife Bernice Ward films fellow members of the Yorkshire Federation of Women’s Institutes as they man a large marquee at the Great Yorkshire Show taking place on the showgrounds at Harrogate in 1960. Large crowds of mainly women wonder around the large tents looking over the various displays of homemade crafts, clothing, food, and drink. A food demonstration is also put on by the Federation.

Inside a marquee a crowd of mainly women look over tables of food and drink, nearby on a small, raised platform women in white overalls chat with another woman also wearing an overall. Beside food demonstration table. Crowds walk past large displays of flowers that are attached to the poles holding up the marquee roof. More crowds wonder through the marquees past various tables of flowers, crafts as well as food and drink while several stand watching a food demonstration taking place on the raised platform. In a refreshment tent men and women sitting around tables chatting while women on white overalls serve tea and cakes from nearby tables.
A parade of men on horseback slowly rides around a showground, each of them carries poles with small flags attached to the top. In the distance cars parked in rows changes to a display of wooden sheds and outdoor equipment. Back inside the marquees crowds continues to wonder around looking at the various displays of houseware and homemade clothing and crafts. In another part of the marquee an animatronic display features a ewe with two lambs. Outside the marquee a bench, a large banner across the entrance reads ‘Yorkshire Federation of Women’s Institutes’.
In a paddock a woman on horseback rides around in a circle, nearby other riders. Visitors wonder around the showground with the film ending on a woman washing her hands.
