Filmed over a seven-month period between September 1956 and April 1957 by farmers wife Bernice Ward, a record of activities taking place on her family’s farm Thirkleby Warren at West Lutton in North Yorkshire. Husband Eric along with other farm workers are filmed harvesting in a cereal crop and creating haystacks from the chaff. In another field they prepare for next year by ploughing and sowing new seed. Cattle, pigs and sheep are also feature around the farm.

A field in early September and three farm workers bundling the hay into stacks. In another part of the field a tractor pulls a combined harvester with two me working nearby. One of the men looks over the now parked harvester before climbing back aboard the tractor to continue the harvest.
A covered lorry drives through the farmyard towards the exit changes to three men working to transfers bales of hay from an open top wagon to a large stack. One of the men stands atop the stack using a pitchfork to move the hay being past to him by the other two men working atop the wagon, they continue their work into dusk.
In another field a farm worker drives a tractor that is pulling a plough or harrow changes to wagons pulled by horses being driven through a field. As it passes workers pour in potatoes they have been picking and storing in metal baskets until the wagon arrives.
In the hay field a tractor with large prongs on the rear is used to move several large haystacks. In the corner of another field a herd of cattle feeding, they run off across the grass. In another part of the field pigs in a pigsty.
Back on the farm two men work to load sack from a barn onto the back of a flatbed lorry. A lift is used to lift the sacks from the ground onto the back of the lorry.
In a field a threshing machine spews out chaff which is scooped up by a bucket attached to the front of a tractor and pushed into a large pile a short distance away.
A farmer worker looks over a plough and possibly a sowing machine attached to a tractor before going to work in a field driving up and down ploughing the earth. At the rear as second worker stands beside the sowing machine.
Sheep in another field changes to a colourful flowerbed in the farmhouse garden and geese wondering along the lane near to the farm.
