This is a promotional film for the Newburn River Industrial Park and riverside revival, a £46 million public investment by One North East and the largest piece of urban reclamation in the country that will feature high quality private sector development. The film focuses on its location to major transport links as well as its proximity to Newcastle and Gateshead with connections to the Team Valley Trading Estate as well as the quality of its construction. The film begins with an old map showing an area called Newburn Haugh which sits at a bend, almost a loop, on the River Tyne. The commentary says that this bend has a story to tell. Superimposed old photographs pass over the old map as the commentary talks about the coal that was sent from here to fuel the industrial revolution. The course of the river was changed at this point and factories moved in.
The commentary continues as it moves on to the 20th century when a graphite works and power station occupied the area at the bend. The film shows old works building being demolished using explosives. The commentary states despite symptomatic of the decline in heavy engineering in the 21st century, industry is due to return to the Newburn riverside.

The commentary states the project will involve the largest urban reclamation project in the country. Heavy earth moving equipment is shown preparing the site.The commentary also states that the project will provide jobs for 4700 people by 2007.On screen a map shows the location of the Newburn Riverside Industry Park emphasisig its proximity to major transport routes.
An aerial view follows of industrial areas along the Tyne with the commentary outlining the changes that have occurred over the years. The film also shows aspects of leisure time in the city showing neon light displays on pubs and clubs. Views of new hotels in the city follow underlining how Newcastle is popular with tourists. Views follow of cultural venues; the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, the Theatre Royal, the Telewest Arena and the Laing Gallery and the Baltic a former flour mill being converted into an arts centre and gallery on the Gateshead side of the river. A large banner on the building reads; ‘Gateshead Quays starts here BALTIC Opens Autumn 2001’. The view changes to that of the Tyne bridge, with the Swing Bridge and the High Level bridge in the background.
Following this is an aerial view of the Gateshead Metro centre, Europe’s largest out of town shopping complex, followed by a view of Newcastle Business Park developed on a site where battleships were once built. More aerial views follow of the Newburn area.

Standing next to the Angel of the North Dr Bridge talks about the breadth of the Newburn development. General views follow of the site. Dr Bridge points towards the Team Valley site to compare how successful and significant the Newburn development will be. Team Valley was started in the 1930’s and is now home to over 600 thriving businesses. A general view follows of the range of business premises at Team Valley.

A blue-print shows an artists impression of a bridge that will be built at this point. The film changes to two men surveying the site. The film lists the main partners involved in the project, WSP, One Northeast, Taylor Woodrow, Webfell. Together they have produced a project team charter with a mission statement; ‘Working Together to bring Sustainable Prosperity to Our Region.’

He outlines how remediation work on the site has benefitted the whole project, with the re-use of excavated material from previous works.
The commentary also states that a quarter of the site will be given over to high grade environmental improvements. Views follow of a bird feeding young in a nest, as the commentary outlines the wildlife corridors which will be a feature of the development.Riverbank walking routes and cycle routes will also be included.

Judith talks about the policy that the city council has in protecting and enhancing wildlife areas. Opportunities in improving wildlife habitation for otters is just one of the improvements that can be made on the Newburn Haugh development.
The commentary sums up the ambition of the Newburn Riverside development. General views follow of the site as the film ends with a map showing the location of the new industry park.
