Title: The opening by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh of Onwa Electronics (UK) Limited
The film opens with Duke of Edinburgh standing next to the chairman of the company, as he welcomes the Duke to the opening ceremony. The chairman gives a brief history of the company and concludes describing it as the biggest Hong Kong based company producing televisions.
A flag flies from a flagpole as two sea cadets from TS Collingwood, the South Shields base of Sea Cadets, raises it to join two others on nearby flagpoles outside the new Onwa factory.
The Duke and other officials arrive at the factory in a car. The Duke waves to some well-wishers as they approach the factory and he shakes hands with the company chairman and another official at the entrance to the factory. The soundtrack continues with the chairman’s opening speech
The Duke meets with other factory employees before moving on to watch workers on a television assembly line. The Duke is taken on a guided tour of the new factory, meeting different workers in different parts of the plant. The chairman’s welcome speech continues in the background.
The Duke meets some of the senior staff, the film returns to the chairman reading his opening speech. The chairman invites the Duke to pull back the curtain which will reveal the commemorative plaque officially opening the factory. The dedication reads; ‘This factory for Onwa Electronics (U.K.) Limited was opened by H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh, K.G; K.T; on Thursday, 10 February, 1994’. A round of applause follows
Another company official reads a note of thanks and presents him with a gift. The Duke is also invited to sign the visitor’s book. He thanks the company for inviting him to officially open the factory, and gives a short speech about his visits to Hong Kong over the years and how it has developed in that time. The Duke signs the visitors book.
At the factory entrance the Duke says goodbye to the company officials and makes his way to inspect some sea cadets from TS Collingwood. A traditional Chinese lion dance takes place as he goes back to his car and waves goodbye.
