Amateur footage produced by D.A. Greaves of various journey undertaken on the Tyne and Wear Metro and local buses around the Tyne and Wear area. Some of the footage is shot from platforms showing various trains pulling into and out, while others are filmed onboard moving trains. The Shields Ferry Frida Cunningham also features arrives at South Shields as well as commuter mainline railway trains coming and going from Newcastle Central Station.

Title: Integration at Tyne and Wear
From a high angle a Tyne and Wear Metro car pulls into a station where a small crowd of passengers stand on the platform. The train comes to a stop and passengers get off and on after which the train departs.
Above ground Tyne and Wear Transport double-decker bus travel along Market Street at the corner of Grey Street. In the near distance car parked along Grey Street near to Grey’s Monument. More buses travel back and worth along Market Street changing to a fruit and vegetable cart set up outside the Haymarket Metro station. Nearby a bus station with buses coming and going from various stands. Inside Haymarket station passengers use an escalator to reach the platform below. Signs beside the north and southbound platform list the station the trains will pass. On the southbound platform passengers wait on the train as it pulls into the station. The doors of the carriage opens and passengers disembark.
A phantom train ride from the front carriage starting in darkness as the Metro car passes through a tunnel emerging onto the Monument platform and then arriving at Central Station. The train crosses the Queen Elizabeth II Metro Bridge into Gateshead. On the platform at Gateshead the carriage door closes and the train leaves the station. Another train departs the platform changing to a different aboveground station and a third Tyne and Wear Metro train pulling out of the platform. As it heads off into the distance another train heads towards the station on the opposite track pulling into the station. The carriage doors open and passengers get off or on.
A Tyne and Wear Metro train travels crosses a bridge over a road below changing to another Metro train pulling out of a station. From a curved section of track that disappears off into the distance trains travel past in both directions.
At Heworth Interchange a double-decker bus pulls into a stop changing to Metro trains travelling past along the track below. A bus comes out of the interchange turning onto the Felling Bypass while a second pulls into a stop where are large queue of passengers waits. On the Metro platform below a train pulls out of the station changing to another phantom ride from the front carriage of a Metro train travelling along the track and pulling into Felling station. The train departs heading north and from the platform at Gateshead another train departs, those on board looking at the camera as it passes. As those who got off leave the platform the train disappears into the tunnel.
At the Gateshead Interchange buses come and go from various stands while on the Metro platform below several trains pass through the station in both directions. At an above ground station more trains pull in and out dropping off and picking up their passengers.
At South Shields a double-decker bus pull into stop erected under a Tyne and Wear Metro bridge, as it does so a train passes overhead. More double-decker buses come and go from stops around South Shields Market.
At the South Shields Ferry Terminal passengers wait on the arrival of the ferry ‘Freda Cunningham’. It pulls into the terminal and with the ramp dropped passengers disembark. As the ferry pulls out it passes another Tyne ferry; the ‘Shieldsman’ before crossing the Tyne heading towards North Shields where a crowd of passengers are waiting.
From another Tyne and Wear Metro station trains come and go from the platform. A brief phantom train ride of a train pulling into and departing Tynemouth and Monkseaton stations changes to show more trains departing from an unknown station. Nearby another bus interchange, possibly at Whitley Bay, where various buses come and go. Metro trains come and go from Monkseaton station followed by a phantom train ride of a train leaving same station passing under a red footbridge. From various locations along the Tyne and Wear Metro system Metro trains pass along the track in both directions pulling into various station.
Back in Newcastle double-decker buses travel in both directions past Central Station on Collingwood Street. On the platform at Central Station various diesel passenger trains, including the British Rail Pacer, pull into or depart. On a far platform an Inter City 125 pulls into its platform. On Central Station Metro platform passenger await the arrival of their train.
From an overhead walkway a Metro train on the platform below, nearby buses pull into various stops at an interchange. Near the Byker Metro station trains pass along a purpose-built concrete bridge heading towards Newcastle. Metro trains pull into the station changing to another phantom carriage ride featuring a driver at the controls of the train. The film ends on a final montage of Metro trains and Tyne and Wear Transport double-decker buses travelling around the system and crossing the Queen Elizabeth II Metro Bridge
