A home movie produced by Thomas Johnson of a family Christmas begins with his wife and son looking down from a footbridge on a decorative Northumberland Street in Newcastle. Back home a Christmas tree and presents laid out around it is followed by the filmmaker son opening his presents as well as by other family members. While the son rides his pedal racing car in the street the Christmas table is set, and a turkey laid out. Following a toast, everyone begins to dance around the small dining room.
An animatronic display in a shop window changes to the filmmaker’s wife and son crossing the footbridge over Northumberland Street. They look down on the decorations and lights criss-crossing the busy shopping street below. A phantom car ride along presumably Northumberland Street at night with the lights switched on.
In a living room a Christmas dress with presents and cards around it. More exterior Christmas lights and a brief shot of a bonfire changes to a small boy coming into the room and opening some of his presents which includes a pedal car which he proceeds to try riding around the room.
Several adults in the room now unwrap their presents, a gift is offered to the family dog. A man, possibly the filmmaker, unwraps a jumper which he holds up. His wife, wearing an apron, holds up a glass ornament.
Outside in the street the boy riding his pedal racing car while inside the dining room table is set for dinner. A large turkey is placed on the table and two people pull a cracker. The small room is full of people sitting or standing chatting over drinks. A couple raise their glasses in a toast, everyone else joins in. The room begins to dance.
A painting of a traditional Christmas scene with a snowman and large Christmas tree begins to spin.
