The film primarily follows a large group of hostellers who travel together in picturesque mountainous regions of Japan, stopping off at several different youth hostels, taking part in various activities and also visiting some well-known sites.

A group of Japanese hostellers are shown walking across a mountainous area, followed by walking towards a very large Japanese torii gate structure. The group are shown in a village pointing to buildings, and then admiring a view over a lake.
The group reaches the outside of a youth hostel - the large sign at the top of the building reads ‘JYH’. They go inside.

A group of young people are shown walking up to a youth hostel. They enter and are greeted by the warden at the desk. They present their membership cards and they pay for their stay. The warden picks a key and points out where their room is upstairs. The two young men follow the warden upstairs and down a corridor for the dormitories. They enter a dormitory where they are shown the lockers and the bunks. The two young men do a polite bow to the warden and sit on their bunks, before putting their rucksacks in the lockers.
One of the young men is shown washing in the shower.
Outside, a young man is shown standing up in front of a circle of people on garden chairs, as he appears to be telling a story. His small audience are then shown clapping.
Inside, a group of hostellers are shown playing table tennis in the common room.
Another group of hostellers are shown sharing a large bath together. One of them is shown drying himself with a towel on the side.
