A sign post which reads ‘Edale’ in one direction and ‘Hope’ in the other is shown, followed by a YHA logo sign post. A family of hostellers (man, woman, small child and dog) look at the signpost and walk down the adjacent path.

View of a youth hostel exterior are shown.
A group of hostellers (two young men and two young women with bikes) are shown walking up the track to the youth hostel. They leave their bikes in the hotel bike shed and they head into the front of the building.
The two men sit down in the entrance of the hostel and take off their hiking shoes.
Intertitle - ‘Some Hole’.
One of the men playfully shows the other man a hole in his sock.
Intertitle - ‘Some stones’.
The other man tips out his boot and several stones drop onto the floor.
Intertitle - ‘Signing in’.
The group approaches the reception desk and the warden shows them how to sign in and points in the direction of the dormitories.
Intertitle - ‘New members are apt to encounter difficulties’.
The two young men are shown struggling to make their beds in the dorm. An older man approaches and helps them out.
Intertitle - ‘The old timer will always lend a helping hand’.
The older man continues to show them how to make the bed and fold the sheets in the correct way.
Intertitle - ‘A good spread to round off a good day’.
A sign which reads ‘to self cookers, kitchen’ and an arrow is shown on the wall.
The two young men are shown getting crockery from a shelf in the kitchen and laying the table. One of the women is shown cooking sausages in a pan on the stove. The men continue to lay the table.
Intertitle - ‘Fun in the common room’.
A large group of hostellers are shown dancing in rows in the common room of the hostel.
Intertitle - ‘Jam session - Feeding the Baby’.
The large group of hostellers are shown watching and laughing as two young men are blindfolded and try to spoon-feed each other jam.
Intertitle - ‘A hearty chorus’.
The large group of hostellers are shown all singing together in the common room.
Intertitle - ‘Time for bed folks’.
One hosteller looks at his pocket watch which shows that it is 10 o’clock. All of the hostellers exit the common room and climb the stairs to the dormitories.

One of the girls is shown laid in her bunk, putting face cream on her face. Another girl is asleep on the bunk above. One of the girls brushes her hair in a mirror.
Intertitle - ‘Bedtime stories’.
The three girls in the dormitory are chatting and laughing.

Some of the men are shown washing their faces in sinks.
Some of the hostellers are sitting at the breakfast table, eating their meals and having tea/coffee. After eating, they gather up their dirty plates.
Intertitle - ‘After breakfast, all hands turn to various duties’.
Some of the hostellers are shown washing and drying up the plates from breakfast.
Intertitle - ‘Wardens are on the lookout for duty dodgers.’
One young man is shown mopping the floor. A warden enters the room to watch what he is doing.
Two young women are shown peeling potatoes in buckets outside the hostel.
One woman is shown folding bedsheets in a dormitory.
