The first part...

The first part of the film is a concert and talk held at Chelsea Old Town Hall. It features musical appearances by bandura payers Postoly, Selo choir and Malo Selo choir. Ambassador Komisarenko waits outside for the President to arrive and then leads him through the building to meet representatives of the Ukrainian community in the UK. The President and presidential party then go into the main concert room and on to the stage. Ambassador Komisarenko makes a speech which is followed by a speech by the President, which finishes at 1 hr 46 mins. The audience and politicians on the stage stand and mixed choir Dnipro sing. The presidential party leaves the stage. In the next scene, the president is presented with a gift of Ukrainian stamps, and signs portraits of himself for distribution before being interviewed by the media. The President and the presidential party then leave the venue in a motorcade. This section ends at 1 hr 11 mins 45 secs.
The next section shows Professor James Dingley sharing his thoughts with Wolodymyr Demtschuk about President Kravchuk.
The next section documents a presidential visit to the Science Museum on 10 February (beginning at 1 hr 14 mins). The president arrives in a motorcade. They have a tour of the museum and there is an interview with Mychaylo Seroke. This is followed by a visit to the National Gallery. They arrive Science Museum 8.45am and National Gallery at 10am. This is followed by a visit to Westminster Abbey where the president lays a wreath. Next there is a visit to 10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister John Major. There is footage inside Downing Street of meeting people and signing papers. Some bandura music is overlaid on this section. This is followed by a visit to the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development where the President attends a press conference.
Next is a monologue by political commentator Ihor Anatoliovych to camera, possibly taken from the Television and Radio Company of Ukraine. The evening is taken up with a banquet at London's Guildhall and shows the arrival of the Lord Mayor of London Sir Francis McWilliams and a close up of the front of the banquet programme. Shows people taking their seats, speech by Kravchuk, speech by the Lord Mayor of London (plus translator for Kravchuk), extract from that evening's BBC Newsnight programme which featured a piece on Kravchuk's visit; 10 February Carlton Hotel - breakfast with John Smith from the Labour Party, followed by some media interviews; visit to Centrepoint to meet or attend the conference of Confederation of British Industrialists (CBI); visit to Palace of Westminster; visit to Buckingham Palace for lunch where he is greeted by Prince Andrew and the Household Division before being taken to meet the Queen; final press conference; meeting with Douglas Hurd, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, before leaving for Scotland. Arrives in Edinburgh that evening to Edinburgh Castle where met by Ian Laing, Secretary of State for Scotland and attends an official dinner. Friday 12 Feb - breakfast meeting with Ian Laing at the Balmoral Hotel where the President was staying. Finishes with stills which gives times of the President's departure to the airport and flight back to Kyiv (in Ukrainian).
Context
Leonid Kravchuk (10 Jan 1934-10 May 2022) was born in Velyki Zhytyn (then Zytyn Wielki, Poland), to an ethnically Ukrainian peasant family. He studied Marxist political economy at Kyiv University and worked as a political economy teacher before entering politics. He joined the Communist Party of Ukraine in 1960 and worked his way up the party structure, becoming Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR on 23 July 1990. He joined the Communist Party of Ukraine in 1960 and worked his way up the party structure, becoming Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR on 23 July 1990. On the collapse of the Soviet Union, he was elected as the first President of Ukraine, with around 60% of the votes. On 8 December, he signed an agreement with the Russian and Belorussian leaders to create a Commonwealth of Independent States.
