The man on the bike hands Janine the envelopes; she responds.

Janine opens her handbag and shows the men her letters/envelopes.

She puts them back in her handbag and gets out some more papers to show the men.

Janine shows the men some photographs from her trip.

Bert walks into the youth hostel. Janine is shown walking into the youth hostel shortly afterwards.
Janine is shown washing and peeling potatoes in a bucket, whilst sat on a bench. Bert joins her and does the same. They chat and smile.
The youth hostel building is shown.

The couple walk out of the youth hostel and down the road. They walk down a track next to some horses. They continue walking and point out some flowers.
As they walk down a small track between some trees, Bert points at a tree.
Intertitle - ‘We saw evidence of a busy woodpecker.’
Bert points up the tree with a stick while Janine touches the hollow areas of the tree caused by the woodpecker. The pair bend down and play with the sawdust at the bottom of the tree.
Intertitle - ‘Finchingfield is a delightful Essex village.’
Bert and Janine are shown heading down the road towards the village.
Bert playfully sits down with his legs in ankle stocks.
The pair continue walking past a while cottage and a windmill. They reach a signpost and head in the direction of Wethersfield, Hedinghams and Braintree.
Intertitle - ‘Castle Hedingham a piece of Medieval England. Clustering round its castle walls.’
Bert and Janine walk down a street; the castle can be seen in the background. They enter a youth hostel.
Intertitle - ‘Janine claims a bed in the half timbered dormitory’.
Janine unpacks her things onto the bed and makes the bed.
The pair are shown lighting a stove and cooking bacon in a pan. Janine serves the bacon on a plate then cracks eggs into the pan. The eggs are also served up. Janine is shown sitting at the table eating the food; Bert appears and pours her a cup of tea from a teapot. He then steals some of her food using his spoon.

Bert and Janine walk down a street and into a churchyard.

The pair walk up to the keep.

The pair walk over to a building with a thatched roof and admire the horseshoes attached to a wooden beam outside. They take their rucksacks off and sit down outside the building. A wooden shutter swings open and hits Bert’s head.
A man walks in front of them and fixes the shutter open in place.
Janine sees a kitten on the floor and picks it up. She plays with it on her lap.
A man walks down the street with a horse. He attaches the rope from the horse to the wooden beam outside the building. Janine walks over and strokes the horse.
Intertitle - ‘We helped the blacksmith to shoe a Suffolk Punch.’
Bert and Janine watch as a blacksmith uses a hammer and anvil to shape a horseshoe. The shoe is shown being held in the forge before back on the anvil again, and then being attached to the hoof of the horse. The same is repeated on another leg.
The horse is untied from the wooden beam.
Intertitle - ‘We had lunch in the Hayfield.’
Bert and Janine are shown walking down the road and into a field of working tractors. The pair sit by a bale of hay eating sandwiches.

Bert and Janine walk into town past a signpost. Lots of people can be seen on the pavements and there are a few cars on the road.

The pair are shown wandering around the busy town and heading up to the castle museum.

They walk past a church and some buildings. They stop at one which says ‘Apethorpe Post Office’ above the window downstairs, and a dog sits in the window upstairs.
Bert goes inside whilst Janine looks through the window.
The couple start walking across a bridge. They stop halfway, visibly eating something as they look over the side of the bridge. Swans are shown swimming in the river underneath the bridge.
Bert and Janine walk down a road as traffic and cyclists pass by. They walk up the road and stop at a rock which reads ‘To Huntingdon 6 miles’. They sit down and eat.
