A series of colourful and decorative floats travel along the High Street in Skipton passing crowds watching from the pavement. Four young women holding bouquets stand or sit atop one float, the banner across the bottom the vehicle reads ‘Skipton Coronation Gala’. Another float with more young women and girls on it reads ‘Skipton’s Choice’. A third float containing a number of women and children have banners that read ‘No Colour Bar’ and ‘White’s Only’ with a cross drawn through it.
The procession which includes a fire engine passes Holy Trinity Church, the clock on the tower reading 3.14pm. A man dressed as a clown walks drunkenly past, another rides a unicycle. A religious scene has been recreated on the back of another float produced by the ‘Congregational Sunday School Skipton’ behind it a ‘Sports Special’ float with a young man posing as if he is about to start a race.
A man dressed as a baby is pushed past in a pram, another is dressed like Davy Crockett and carries a musket. Behind him a cowboy performing rope tricks. A marching band passes, the musicians all dressed in various clown outfits changes to show a group of girls all dressed in white holding bouquets atop their float.
Kathleen May Touhig speaks with Ken behind the camera cutting to a series of costumed figures posing in a field. Davy Crockett fires his musket changing to a man dressed as a Native America standing next to a woman in a flamenco dress and holding a tambourine. Four men dressed as clowns look down on the camera.
Inside Airville Park a fair with Kathleen walking past and children enjoy a fairground ride made up of cars that look like trains. Kath tries her luck with a slot machine. On a showground girls performing a dance routine followed by a Scottish bagpipes band marching past. The crowds watch a cowboy show or rodeo with men racing up and down the showground on horseback and performing tricks with ropes. In a boxing ring two young men fight watched by a crowd, the winner receiving a trophy.
At night a decorative light display spells ‘We Thank You and Good Night’ followed by a fireworks display. The film ends with Kath walking up Park Hill in Skipton, speaking with Ken and heading back down again.
