Title: Oliver Cromwell
Near the village of Hellifield the BR Standard Class 7 70013 Oliver Cromwell steam locomotive pulls passenger carriages south across an embankment along the Blackburn line picking up speed as it passes a signal and crossing the A65. Deborah Ellwood sits on a wall, nearby a young man with a film camera.
Heading west from Hellifield station a BR Class 47 D1773 diesel locomotive pulls its passenger carriages past through a cutting below the A65 changes to the 70013 Oliver Cromwell again, this time without carriages steaming north along the Blackburn line.
In the river Aire near the aqueduct at Bank Newton children, including the Ellwood’s, swim and play in the water watched over by parents sitting along the bank. Kath and Peter Ellwood sit on deckchairs while John, Deborah and David play and swim around in the water with friends.
The 70013 Oliver Cromwell steams across three bridges over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, River Aire and a road changes to two boys playing in the water below. The 70013 Oliver Cromwell reverses past passing through Hellifield railway station changing to children, including the Ellwood’s again, playing happily in the waters of the river Aire as it passes under a bridge.
Two LMS Stainer Class Five locomotives 44899 and 45290 pull eleven passenger carriages into Skipton railway station. The LNER Class 3A 4472 Flying Scotsman reverses into Skipton station watched by several rail enthusiasts along the track, as it comes to a stop in the station spectators quickly gather around the engine looking it over as it blows off steam. With the carriage now attached it pull out of the station passing men along the track, many with cameras.
The two Stainer locomotives reverse past followed by them pulling passengers carriages into Skipton station. Along the trackside with other rail enthusiasts are David and John Ellwood and friend Philip Sands. Like the Flying Scotsman before it the 70013 Oliver Cromwell reverses into Skipton station before departing with the passenger carriages now attached. Men with cameras along the track take photographs. The film ends on the two Stainer’s seen previously reverse out of the station.
