An amateur film produced by Ken Ellwood predominantly featuring volunteers on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway in North Yorkshire working to lay railway track connecting their heritage railway with British Rail’s mainline. In the final part of the film a threshing machine in operation on a farm. Volunteers on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway work to lay track connecting their railway to the British Rail mainline. Some of the men use shovels to level the aggregate, others use giant pincers to move sections of track or sleepers into the correct position. One man give directions as crowbars are used to put the tracks into their final correct positions. A section of rail is moved towards its final destination on rollers attached to the completed track, a man pours water onto a saw to cool the blade as it cuts into a section of rail. A diesel locomotive pulling cargo wagons slowly approaches a set of points where the volunteers are working. Several diesel locomotives pass over a set of points or travel through a station. One of the locomotives pulls a brakes vans, several volunteers stand at the back. Beside a barn a man feeds wheat or other cereal crop into a threshing machine that is being powered by a steam traction engine. Other workmen around the thresher replace full sacks of grain or move the straw which comes out of the rear.
