An amateur film produced by Ken Ellwood believed to be of the Wensleydale Show taking place in the town of Leyburn in North Yorkshire. The film features judges looking over sheep and cattle followed by a procession of tractors and decorative floats all watched by spectators including the filmmaker’s wife Kath.
In a field judges wearing yellow badges look over a series of sheep being held in place by their owners. A small crowd of onlookers watches as each animal is checked over from horn to hoof. In another field a man carrying a shepherd’s crook drags a sheep while as judges makes notes on pads. A group of men stand around the two-finalist sheep looking them over.
At another part of the showground a line of cows tied to a rope changes to judges looking over several cattle standing in a line. In a smaller showground a boy walks forward with his dog which is them looked over by two judges, nearby other competitors stand with their dogs.
A parade of red painted tractors pulling various pieces of farm machinery passes changing to a parade of cattle being led around a showground past a large crowd of standing and sitting spectators. A tractor pulling a wagon drives past with four young people standing on the back each holding a piece of traditional or modern dairy equipment. A sign on the front of the wagon reads ‘Join the Y.F.C. and Learn Modern Methods’.
Two small boys sit on the grass beside a rope barrier watching the procession, beside them two women sitting in chairs. One of the women is Kath Ellwood. A young couple, possibly recently married, drives past in a tractor, the woman wearing a shawl and holding a bouquet. The film ends on a small flatbed van in the middle of the showground with a man cranking the starter. The engine running it drives away.
