A home movie produced by Ken Ellwood begins with a focus on his third child John playing with his older siblings David and Deborah in the front garden of the family home on Heath Crescent in Bradley, North Yorkshire. In the second part of the film a family holiday to St Anne’s on the Sea in Lancashire with the children playing happily in the sand and visiting nearby Blackpool and it’s Pleasure Beach.
Outside the family home Kath Ellwood places her baby son John into his pram, he begins to cry. She picks him up and sits with him rubbing his back and gives him a bottle of milk.
David and Deborah Ellwood along with two friends enjoy eating ice-cream lollies in the garden. David licks some of the garden wall. David drives his peddle car, a blond-haired girl sits beside him while the other boy pushes the car from the rear.
Ken picks up and poses with son John before sitting in the deckchair. Deborah helps her father dig up potatoes from the garden with a fork. She sits with her brother David eating fresh peas from a pod. Kath comes over and places brother John in between them before picking him up again and after posing with him placing him in his pram. She cuts a cabbage from a patch.
John sits playing happily in his pram changes to him taking some early steps around the garden. He places a small spade into his walker before pushing it across the lawn past colourful flowerbeds. As he walks towards a wall he falls, but gets back up again.
David and Deborah race over sand dunes onto the beach at St Anne’s on the Sea coming to a stop beside their mother who sits with brother John. She pulls him through the sand by his legs, he smiles happily. Deborah fills a bucket with sand while Ken pulls David through the sand the same as John.
In their bathing costumes David and Deborah play with a large ball in a paddling pool. David uses a stick to push his model sailing boat out onto the water after which he and his sister come over to their mother who is sitting on a nearby wall next to John who walks past carrying a bucket placing it on a wall beside them. Deborah plays with the model boat followed by John kicking a ball along a path. With someone’s help he tosses the ball into the pool. David and Deborah climb out of a bush and down a steep rock.
The ‘Big Dipper’ at Blackpool Pleasure Beach with three cars passing as part of a ride. Kath and the children walk around the Pleasure Beach, behind them a Ferris wheel made up of three wheels. David and Deborah enjoy a number of rides before digging in the sand on the beach with their father. The film ends with the children paddling in the sea with Ken.
