Context
A campaigning and fundraising organisation since its foundation in 1948, the Association of Ukrainian Women (AUW) in Great Britain developed its approach to humanitarian aid in response to the Chornobyl (Chernobyl) nuclear disaster by setting up the Ukrainian Children’s Appeal Fund (Fond Materi I Dytyny). A national campaign was launched with the aim of sending humanitarian supplies to families in Ukraine who had been affected by Chornobyl and who were struggling to get medication and basic supplies.
