Beginning with her waking up and having breakfast, she attends a lecture before wondering around both the campus and Middlesbrough highlighting some of the campus and local amenities. After visiting the university gym Erica gets ready for a night out, and film ends with her and her friends enjoying themselves at the Club One, part of the Students' Union. On a grassy bank beside the pond inside Albert Park sit two young Finnish women, students at the University of Teesside. They turn to face the camera with one of them holds up a flyer showing a map of the United Kingdom and points out where Middlesbrough is on it. A phantom car ride along the A66 dual carriageway through Middlesbrough past industrial and chemical works and over Exchange Square. Opening Titles: Teesside Student Production in Collaboration with Media Service Unit Are pleased to present A Day with Erica (In the distance through the mist the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge.) Erica wakes up in her bed and looks at her alarm clock; it’s just after 7am. She walks across her room into her communal kitchen where she toasts two slices of bread. The bread toasted she takes them to a table to eat. In a bathroom she looks at herself in the mirror while brushing her teeth. She steps outside from her apartment at Parkside House and passes two of her friends who wave as they pass along the path. A third friend who is leaning against a nearby wall also waves and smiles at Erica as she passes. On the wall of Parkside House a CCTV camera. Inside a building on campus Erica walks along a corridor following other students into a lecture theatre. At the front beside an overhead-projector the lecturer preparing his notes. More students arrive taking their seat. Erica enters and walks around the ground floor of the Learning Resource Centre. She takes an elevator to the 2nd floor walking past shelves of books to a computer area where students are working. She sits at a computer and opens her Hotmail account to send an email. She looks at books on a shelf before taking one to a table overlooking the campus and traffic moving along Southfield Road below. Standing outside the library she points at some of the buildings and attractions around her including the Dicken’s Inn on Southfield Road, the Clarendon building and Student’s Union. A phantom car ride along Linthorpe Road passing Upton’s department store as well as many restaurants and fast food shops and The Crown public house on the corner of Borough and Linthorpe Road. A large sign for the ‘Cleveland Centre’ shopping mall about its entrance and people coming and going from the Hill Street Centre. Back on Linthorpe Road the ‘Kwik Save’ supermarket, inside which Erica shops placing a packet of ‘Easy Cook Rice’ into her basket. Exterior of Sainsbury’s supermarket on Wilson Street and Morrison’s supermarket at Teesside Park. Erica walks into a sports hall where six students are playing a game of volleyball. Inside Albert Park a tennis court on which two women play. Nearby a group of older men play bowls on a green. Erica walks into the campus ‘Fitness Centre’ showing her ID to a man in an office. She walks into the women’s changing room and then into the gym where students are using weights and other pieces of fitness equipment. On a balcony overlooking the gym below more exercise equipment and someone on a treadmill. Back in her room Erica gets ready for a night out. She knocks on the door of a friends flats and a young man opens it and inviters her inside. In the kitchen her friends, they kiss each other’s cheeks. Inside the Dicken’s Inn Erica watches two friends play pool, at the bar a crowd of students ordering drinks. At another busy bar Erica sits at a table with her friend Robert who explains why he loves Middlesbrough. One of her other friends holds up a ticket for ‘Fruity Friday’ at Club One. Erica enters the Student’s Union and heads upstairs to Club One. A steward puts a paper ticket around her wrist before making her way onto the packed dancefloor to dance with her friends. The film ends with views inside Albert Park and birds on the pond.
