The second of three short student exercises in the production of a live television programme entitled ‘Student News’ with two presenters introducing three filmed news reports on the high food prices in the Student’s Union Café, an interview with a student who was threatened at knifepoint and a look at a newly constructed leisure facility in the region.
In a studio presenters Simon Button and Jamie Beech sit behind desks with a backdrop of a city skyline at night. They introduce this edition of ‘Student News’.
Inside a university café, students purchase food and drink, interview with two representative of the café who says the prices are competitive in comparison with other food outlets in the town. Holding a microphone, the reporter asked a student if the bottle of soda he has just bought is value for money, he doesn’t think so.
Back in the studio the presenters introduce the second report on a student who was attacked at knifepoint on the streets of Middlesbrough. General views of the campus followed by interview with Lou Taylor, the student about his attack. This is followed by an interview with a member of the university's Campus Security who says they have been no violent attacks or muggings on the campus, but several incidents around the campus with students who are not yet ‘streetwise’ to the area. Attached to a building on campus a CCTV camera which, the Campus Security representative states, is acting as a deterrent. The report ends on students crossing the campus and Southfield Road.
In the studio a presenter introduces the third and final item on the Rainbow Leisure Centre at Coulby Newham in Middlesbrough. Standing outside the centre reporter Michael Gilkes to camera introducing his report. Inside people enjoying the pool and interview with Colin Duncan Junior Manager about the services and classes the pool provides. Back outside Michael finishes the report to camera.
Back in the studio the present close out the programme.
