Title: North East Disabled Writers’ Project – Cleveland. Cry Freedom
A representative of the Cleveland Theatre Company addresses the audience with regards the upcoming performance and working with members of the North East Disabled Writers’ Project. Standing beside him a woman translates his words into sign-language.
The lights come down and one of four performers in this production comes forward and stands on a small stage built in front of the main stage and performs while reading from her script. Behind her a second actor types on a typewriter, the sound effect adding to the performance.
The four performers perform both individually as well as together a series of short pieces. Where needed they move pieces of set onto to or off the stage area. Standing beside them is the woman seen previously translating their words into sign-language. She is replaced by a different woman in the second half.
The performance comes to an end with the actors working as a troupe standing on the stage reading from their scripts over music. The production ends with everyone, including the actors on the stage applauding.
