Title: University of Teesside Fire Safety Video A fire crew tackles a fire at a commercial building. Title: Fire has the potential to cause fatal and serious injuries Following a fire, a fireman sifting through burned debris. Title: Make sure that rubbish is disposed of correctly. Empty cardboard boxes are thrown into a skip. A cigarette end is tossed into a bin alongside paper, it catches fire. Another cigarette is stubbed out into an ashtray. Title: Faulty electrical appliances must not be used Smoke comes from a plug in a wall socket. Title: Electrical appliances should be unplugged when not in use Two plugs in a wall socket, one of the plugs is removed. Title: Prevent the spread of fire by closing doors A man comes out of an office, turns off the light and closes the door behind him. Title: Keep passageways, corridors and stairways clear A man walks along a corridor passing through a fire door which closes behind him. Smoke and a red light coming from underneath a door. Title: If you discover a fire A hand takes hold of the door handle but doesn’t open it. Title: leave the building by the nearest exit A man leaves the building by a Fire Exit followed by two others. Title: sounding the fire alarm on route by breaking the glass in the ‘Break Glass’ call point A hand activates the fire alarm, a siren begins. Another hand picks up a telephone receiver and dials ‘999’ followed by a third dialling ‘3200’. In the universities security control room a Security Officer takes the call. Smoke rising to a smoke detector which activities with a siren. Inside the Learning Resource Centre, a computer suite with students at work watched over by a tutor. The fire alarm sounds, they leave the classroom but are turned back at the stairs by a member of staff who points them in the direction of nearest exit. Around the building other classes exit the building in an orderly manner. Title: After leaving the building assemble in an adjacent car park Students gather in a car park adjacent to Middlesbrough Tower. A Cleveland Fire Brigade fire engine speeds along Dunning Street pulling up outside the rear door of Middlesbrough Tower. Firemen get out and attach hoses to the tender. A copy of the ‘Fire Evacuation Guide for Students with Disabilities’, underneath an image of a woman in a wheelchair carrying a small dog being pushed through a door. Title: for any member of staff or student with a disability a University guidance note has been produced Title: Persons with mobility problems should try and leave the building in the event of a fire The woman seen in the image above in her wheelchair is pushed into a stairwell, the person pushing leaves along with three other people. A tender with an extended ladder pulls up outside Parkside Hall. A fireman jumps out and speaks to a member of the universities security team asking if everybody is out of the building. They head inside, up the stairs to rescue the woman in the wheelchair still in the stairwell. A recap of the films main points printed on a sign attached to a wall.
