Titles: A Fly on the Wall
A Close Look at Induction Week at Teesside Polytechnic England
A montage featuring both moving and still images of both the campus of Teesside Polytechnic and the town of Middlesbrough with its industries of steel, ship building and Petro-chemicals.
A second montage of a rural North Yorkshire valley featuring lush green fields with a village and a stream running through it followed by views of Whorlton Castle near the village of Swainby and Rievaulx Abbey near Hemsley. From the cliffs the pier at Saltburn-by-the-Sea below followed by an image of the village of Staithes.
Back at Teesside Polytechnic the exterior of one of the school buildings. In a laboratory two students at work inside the school of Science, Technology and Engineering. A female model walking down a catwalk wearing a dress designed and made by students in the school of Design, Fashions and the Arts. In another part of the university students work with computers in the Business Studies and Management department followed by a group discussion taking place between students and tutors in Social Sciences and Humanities. Outside Whorlton Castle a group of trainee teachers.
A white van full of new students drives along Albert Road towards Teesside Polytechnic and pulling up outside Middlesbrough Tower. Asleep in a nearby car a young female student. Some of the students in the van are interviewed about their worries about being a new student, they raise issues including accommodation, being able to take care of themselves and being away from home.
Some of the students are led across the campus changing to focus on the faces of the four students who will form the focus of this film: Sandra from Cheshire studying Business Studies, Alan from ‘the south’ also studying Business Studies, eighteen-year-old Christine from North Wales studying Humanities and twenty-year-old Rob from Hampshire studying Chemical Engineering. A montage of them having their accommodation sorted followed by registration and them in a lecture room for their academic induction. In the student’s union young men and women watch a local band over a few drinks. On a pitch a football match in progress.
A model of an apparent accommodation block.
Title: Halls of Residence (Dormitories)
A montage of still images showing various accommodation available at Teesside Polytechnic including King Edwards Square and the satellite campus at Middleton St George followed by an image showing a group of students together in a living area.

In King Edwards Square Sandra also describes her current living conditions and the need to find two people to live in a house with her. In the Students' Union four different students sitting around a table talking about the accommodation issues, they can’t find anything in Middlesbrough.
