HMS Illustrious is towed down the river Tyne away from Swan Hunter Shipbuilders Ltd at Wallsend where it was built.
From a hotel window in the town of Malgrat de Mar a woman walks along the road below, nearby the hotel swimming pool. On a beach sunbathers and hotel built just off the sand. A group of tourists look inside a shop, more walk up and down a shopping boulevard. A motorised train travels along a road past the Hotel Sorra Daurada.
At night fireworks in the sky and a bonfire. A tram passes through Malgrat station. Tourists walking along a street and a woman buying an ice cream from a kiosk. On the beach crowds of people relaxing or swimming in the sea.
Visitors make their way towards the Cathedral of Barcelona changing to a viewing area looking down on the city below. The spires and unique architectural style of La Sagrada Familia changes to a boat trip passing a replica sailing boat and the statue of Christopher Columbus.
Overlooking Placa de Catalunya the Banco Central and traffic moving around the square. There is a turning circular emblem atop a building followed by a poster for ‘Espana 82’. People walking about the city and a marina below seen through a hole. A light aircraft flies overhead pulling a banner. A woman stands on a balcony looking out over the city below.
From an airplane flying north the mouth of the River Tyne and the town of Tynemouth and Whitley Bay below; in the distance St Mary’s Lighthouse. The aircraft comes into land.
The Hotel Ereso and a tour bus parked in the road outside. A man standing on rocks looks out to sea using a pair of binoculars. A couple walk along a coastal path changing to another couple walking along a seafront boulevard walking through a gate to the Hotel Ereso.
From a lookout position the sea below with a war ship moored in the distance. The couple walk along a road changing to shows shirts for sale in a shop. The filmmaker Edwin and his daughter Karen look out from their hotel balcony at the other hotel complexes built around them. In the distance two boats approach a quayside.
The Simpson’s Hotel at Wallsend, behind it the cranes of Swan Hunter Shipbuilders Ltd. A Tyne & Wear Metro car passes through the town. Bus stops outside the Wallsend Metro station and from the platform a Metro train arriving. A double-decker bus passes the station, and the film ends on cranes at the shipyard.
