This film documents a visit made to the Oldham Ukrainian Cultural Centre by the Ukrainian Video Archives Society (UVAS). It includes interviews with members of community organisations, a tour of the interior and exterior of the building, and a mass held in the main hall. The film was made by UVAS, it is in colour and has sound, its language is Ukrainian.
The film begins with interviews of representatives of the various community organisations including the Association of Ukrainians (AUGB) (Mr Chymera), Association of Ukrainian Women (AUW) (Mrs Okopska), Association of Ukrainian Youth (CYM) (Jaroslaw Lototskyj?), Association of Ukrainian Former Combatants (ObVU) (unidentified), the social club (unidentified), Ukrainian Catholic Church committee (unidentified). They all introduce themselves and give an overview of their respective organisations. Mr Chymera gives a potted history of Oldham's community. This is followed by an introduction to the members of the choir of ObVU, followed by AUW and its choir who give a short performance.
The film then shows a liturgy with communion and a requiem to commemorate a year since the death of Patriarch Josyf Slypij. This is held in the hall and is conducted by Father Matychak. The patriarchal hymn is sung at the end, and a group of CYM members come to the front during the requiem as a mark of respect. Father Matychak and Mr Chymera make some community announcements at the end of mass. The film continues by exploring the building in more detail.
The next scene shows external views of the club with a voiceover from My Chymera about its history and development. Next, they go inside to the bar area and there is more commentary about the remodelling of the club, with mention of Roman Sawczuk, a builder from the Manchester Ukrainian community who did the work, and Mrs Yurkiw and Mrs Marusia Jarotska's art work which is on display. Mr Chymera then leads the camera into the hall where he speaks in detail about the development of this space and about the community more generally.
They go into the kitchen and speak with the AUW members who are in there, and then progress through the club to the old school room, where there are a couple of display cabinets containing photographs and various objects, then through to another class room and a games room which used to be the hall. The tour is narrated by Mr Chymera and there is a tone of sadness as he reflects that the community is in decline, as there are no longer enough children for the Ukrainian school to operate because people have moved away from the area, and any remaining families take their children to Manchester. They go back through the bar and then into another room where the ObVU Chairman (unidentified) introduces Teodor Khoma (?) head of CYM, who says a few words about CYM before handing back to the ObVU Chairman who also speaks about CYM. The film finishes at 2 hrs 19 mins 55 secs.
