A plate of fish and chips and mushy peas on a chequered tablecloth changes to the Harry Ramsden's sign above the company's original branch on Bradford Road in Guiseley near in Leeds.
Montage of historic photographs beginning with a crowd outside the first shop in Bradford, a portrait of Harry Ramsden Jnr and of him standing in the doorway of his original wooden hut. The image fade and is replaced by an older couple walk up steps towards that original takeaway hut now next-door to the current restaurant.
Inside customers sitting at tables enjoying their meals of fish and chips surrounded by chandeliers, stained glass windows and monogrammed carpet. A waitress in black and white uniform speaks with a young couple at a table, in the kitchen a second woman works to cook fish in a deep fryer. Under a heated lamp a waitress collects plates of fish and chips and bowls of mushy peas and takes them to waiting customers.
Sitting at table in the restaurant is John Barnes, Chairman of Harry Ramsden's plc who talks about both the history and development of the company and why his company purchased it. Around the busy restaurant more plates of fish and chips are brought out and consumed happily. Returning to John Barnes he talks about how the staff of the restaurant are like performers and the customers an audience, in the kitchen someone stirs a vat of frying chips while more plates of food are made up for waitresses to take to tables. A man approaches the cash desk to pay his bill, the woman behind the counter takes his money and gives back his change.
Outside a woman and two men walk into the Harry Ramsden's Souvenirs shop where mugs, model vans and other merchandise embossed with the Harry Ramsden's logo are for sale. Crowds look around the shop at items to buy including Harry's own tomato sauce.
Back in the restaurant customer continue to enjoy their meals as waitresses wonder about either bringing out more food or clearing tables of empty plates. John Barnes again talking about the company's expansion plans.
At the Metro Centre at Gateshead Scottish businessmen Barry Larsen and Fraser Ross look over plans for a new restaurant under construction there. Around them building work continues, an interview with Barry Larsen about why he and Fraser have decided to work with Harry Ramsden's to open this franchise. Nearby a large banner gives an opening dates as autumn 1992. Back at the Guiseley restaurant John Barnes talks about how the company chooses the right people for their franchise, people who know their local market.
Exteriors of the Guiseley restaurant while inside more plates of fish and chips are served. The photograph of Harry Ramsden's Jnr standing in the doorway of his original hut changes to a television news item about the opening on a new restaurant in Hong Kong featuring Dragon dancers, fish and chips been cooked and being consumed by happy customers. The report includes interviews with some of the staff as well as customers, Asian as well as western, about what they think of the fish, chips and mushy peas, some washed down with cans of Tetley's Bitter.
