A promotional film made for Wansbeck District Council in Northumberland to encourage Asian businesses to open factories in the area. The film follows the story of a visit to the region by two Chinese businessmen who are met of the plane by a representative of the Wansbeck Business Centre. He proceeds to take them on a tour of the area outlining to them the opportunities that are available before arriving back at the business centre for a presentation. From the cockpit of a commercial airliner the aircraft banks away from the sun changing to a man called Mr Walker walking over to his parked car at the Wansbeck Business Centre. A montage sequence follows featuring the aircraft flying across the region and Mr Walker driving to Newcastle Airport. Onboard the airplane are two Chinese businessmen, Mr Lee and Mr Chang. Mr Lee flicking through a promotional magazine to do with Wansbeck while his colleague looks out the window. Overlaying this sequence, a series of maps starting with an image of the world and ending with that of Wansbeck in Northumberland. A stewardess comes over and informs Mr Lee that the plane will be landing shorting as Mr Walker parks his car in the airport car park. A British Airways aircraft comes into land. Title: The Right Time An arrivals board at Newcastle Airport and Mr Lee and Mr Chang stepping out of the aircraft cabin onto a ladder. They begin to walk through the airport terminal. Title: The Right Place Crowds of other businesspeople wonder through the terminal as the two men pass the Executive Lounge. Title: The Right Move Passengers collect their luggage from the carousel as the two men chat while continuing to walk through the terminal, they pass a 'Meeting Place' sign. Title: Wansbeck District Council Eventually all three men meet up greeting each other with handshakes. Mr Walker escorts his two visitors to his car and drives them at speed along a road, the image turns grainy black and white as the car passes traffic on a dual-carriageway. Mr Walker points out to Mr Lee an economic survey on the foreign investment coming into Wansbeck sitting on the dashboard, Mr Lee picks it up and begins flicking though the document. In grainy black and white the car passing a sign that reads 'Wansbeck District', Mr Lee shows the document to Mr Chang sitting in the backseat. The car drives across a bridge over the river Wansbeck, Mr Walker asks Mr Chang if he plays golf. On a nearby course two men are playing, one puts a ball into a hole. Aerial of the Metro Centre in Gateshead followed by a montage of images inside the centre of people enjoying the many leisure facilities as well as shopping. Title: Lifestyle Interview with Dr John Bridges, Chief Executive Northern Development Company of the many leisure facilities in the Wansbeck area followed a montage of sporting activities. Title: Premises Mr Walker continues to drive his visitors passing the Synpac Chemicals factory. Interview with Managing Director Mr C.Y. Lin about the business opportunities in Wansbeck and the help available from the local Business Development Unit. Title: Infrastructure The car now drives along a dual-carriageway followed by an interview with Pat Moore, Managing Director of Welwyn Components about the local workforce and infrastructure available to new businesses. A series of wind-turbines and the car passing a sign for the Alcan Lynemouth Smelter. Along a dockside an ore-carrier is being loaded or unloaded, interview again with Mr Lin the choice and nature of available premises. Back in the car Mr Chang asks Mr Walker about communication facilities which is followed by a montage of available transportation including lorries, a train, ship and aeroplane. Title: Workforce Interview with Pat Moore about the local labour force. Montage of colour and black and white images of a modern housing estate. In a restaurant two Asian children enjoy a meal of fish and chips followed by children in a playground and a beach. Outside a Chinese restaurant a crowd watch Dragon dancers perform to traditional Chinese music and fireworks. Inside the three men enjoy a meal. A waitress comes over with a bowl of rice. Mr Chang asked Mr Walker about the availability of finances and grants. Title: Finance Interview with Dr John Bridges who talks about the various types of finance available for businesses. Mr Walker tells Mr Chang that Wansbeck has Development Area Status and he will get special privileges. Title: Assistance Mr Lin talks about the help that is available for start-up or operational issues from the Wansbeck Business Centre. Back in the restaurant Bob Jones from an American multinational company in Wansbeck comes over and shakes hands with Mr Walker. He introduces Mr Jones to Mr Lee and Mr Chang. Mr Walker drives Mr Lee and Mr Chang to a presentation at the Wansbeck Business Centre. As they pull up outside Alan French, Chief Economic Development Officer comes out to greet them. They shake hands before Mr French invites the two guests inside to talk business.
