Summary A special edition of the Tyne Tees Television rural life programme Up Country presented by Jessica Holm coming from Alston, Britain's highest market town. The programme begins with William Moults taking a voyage of discovery on board a narrow-gauge steam locomotive being run by a local preservation society, the South Tynedale Railway. Back in Alston, Jessica meets wine expert Malcolm Brown at his shop in the town who will be providing the wine for the towns annual wine tasting picnic onboard the steam trains featured in the previous report. Before jumping onboard, Jessica joins local Botanist Peter Buchanan on a visit to a local lead mine to learn about the North Pennines industrial past and to see the some of the flowers and grasses now growing in the aftermath which are being documenting by Peter for the Nature Conservancy Council. After the break, Jessica returns to Alston to sample some of Malcolm Brown's wine chooses and to join residents for a railway journey along the South Tyne Valley and picnic on the platform at Gilderdale. |
