This film was taken during a Sheffield climbing group’s trip to Gritstone Edges in Derbyshire.
The film opens showing a man climbing a craggy rock face. He has ropes attached to him. He moves across the rocks. A close up shows him looking upwards before he continues to climb, another close up shows the placement of his feet. From a camera that is placed some distance away, we see him almost flat against the rocks. It is very high up, and we can see the peak district in the background. From below we see him get to a safe summit where another man waits for him. They then both continue upwards the film cutting back and forth to show them as they climb their way to the very top.
Next they start at the bottom of another rock-face, and again the filmmaker shows them climbing upwards he follows the climbers up, filming them as he himself climbs. Once the filmmaker is at the top, he shows another man sitting on the edge and helping another man. He slowly makes his way up holding the ropes in-case he slips.
Another man then climbs another part of the rock. The filmmaker trains his camera on him as he gradually makes his way up to the summit. Another sequence shows two men at the top pulling in their ropes.
The film then cuts to the base of a rocky area where the climbers have set up camp. Two of them then proceed to climb up often moving into the deep crags to get a better grip. A panning shot shows the countryside, also showing just how high they have climbed. The film closes with a final sequence showing a climb where most of the group are now climbing up the rock face including the filmmaker who intermittently stops as he goes up to show them all climbing up before reaching the summit.
