This film documents a number of scouting activities including a St. George's Day Scout Parade, Chief Scout Camp at Rudding Park, and St. Thomas' Camp all in 1977. The film includes Scout and Guides processing from Clifford's Tower to the York Minster as well as brief scenes of Scout trip to Rudding Park.
The film opens at Clifford's Tower in York and shows Scouts, Guides, Brownies and Cubs set off on their procession through York. They process down Coney Street and around the back of the Mister. The parade then ends at the Castle Museum where they gather in a large group and stand in neat line. Finally, the groups disperse, and the children go to find their parents who are waiting nearby.
The next portion of the film takes place at a Scout Camp. The boys set up their tents where they begin to cook food over camp fires before sitting down on the grass to eat. Some Scouts camp on fields whilst others have set up their tents in nearby woodland. Later they go canoeing in a nearby river as well as rafting on makeshift platforms. The film closes with panning shots of the camp.
The final film on this reel features the York's Heworth Brownies annual trip to an outdoor activity site to the north of the city.
The film opens with under-exposed interior shot of a girl putting on her Brownie hat before cutting to the Brownie headquarters in Heworth - which doubles as the York Scout Centre. The girls in uniform say goodbye to the parents and get onto the awaiting coach that will take them on their trip. A tracking shot from a car that is following the coach shows the countryside and a road sign for their destination of Burnsall. On arrival the coach pulls up at Burnsall Hall where once stopped the girls exit and each take their cases into the hall.
Later they exit the building and go into the countryside ton have a picnic before taking a walk. A local village sporting event is taking place and the girls go to watch. There is a children's race which some take part in as well as food stalls for refreshments and a funfair. The filmmaker goes around the area and captures the day's activities. The film then returns to some underexposed sequences in the hall. Camp beds have been set up for the girls to sleep on.
Another day and the girls head off in groups with one leader each for a walk. They do various activities around the village such as visiting shops. They return to the hall where they precede to have lunch. The film then cuts to exterior scenes of them lining up to get ice creams from a van that is parked in the street. The film then moves to show them taking a trip to a lake where they stand in the shallows and fish with nets. Close ups show what the various girls have caught. The film closes with them returning to York where there parents wait for them.
