Title - Jack Frost Strikes Again
The front door of one of the houses is shown.
Inside the house, one woman (Rita) is looking in a handheld mirror, whilst another older woman (her mother, Mrs Small) is drying plates. A man in a suit (Charlie) enters enthusiastically and announces good news of a house sale whilst putting his arm around the two women; he kisses Rita (his fiancé). The three chat some more in the kitchen about the cold coming.
A snowy scene outdoors is shown, with bare trees. A woman in a big coat, bonnet and winter boots, carrying two cases is shown walking against the wind through the snow.
In the house, Charlie, Rita and Mrs Small are seen discussing the cold again after listening to a radio announcement about the weather. Charlie smokes his pipe and considers the plumbing.
Two milk bottles are shown in the snow outside. Mrs Small opens the door and retrieves them.
Mrs Small sets the gas hob alight with matches and puts the kettle over the flames. She fills a pan of water from the sink.
Charlie walks out of his bedroom in his dressing gown whistling. He enters the bathroom and turns on the taps. Only the hot tap on the sink and the hot tap on the bath works - the cold taps are frozen. He exits the bathroom.
Charlie knocks on Rita's bedroom door to explain the problem.
In the kitchen, Charlie helps Rita into her scarf and jacket, whilst explaining the tap problem to the older woman. The couple exit the house.
A plaque reads ‘Rippleclere Water Company’.
Inside a water company office, a distribution manager answers a ringing telephone. It is revealed to be Mrs Small calling from a phone box. He explains to her how the plumbing works, why it might be frozen, and how to solve the problem.
In the kitchen, Mrs Small relays the information from the man at the water company to the couple. They are sat at the dining table having dinner, whilst she pours the kettle into a teapot. Rita goes to fill the kettle again from the sink and the tap does not turn on.
Charlie carries buckets of water from outside into the kitchen.
Charlie picks up a table and chair and takes them upstairs. He stands them on top of one another and uses them to stand on and get into the loft in the roof. After taking a look inside he comes back down.
Icicles next to a river are shown.
Charlie stands outside in his dressing gown, and then comes back inside. As he comes through the doorway, a large lump of snow falls down behind him.
Charlie sits down at the table for breakfast, and notices a drip coming from the ceiling. The characters look scared and run away from the table as a part of the roof collapses onto the table. Debris on the table is shown as Charlie exits the house to get help from the plumber.
A bowl is shown on the table catching drips from the ceiling.
Charlie enters the house with the plumber. The plumber explains how water flows from the mains and fills the storage whilst pointing out a service tap under the sink.
In the bathroom, the plumber explains where the pipes became frozen and why.
In the kitchen, the plumber further explains the problem of frozen pipes bursting based on how the plumbing works. He then explains some solutions for the future.
The water pipe system in the house before and after lagging is shown.
Rags blocking areas of draught is shown.
Pipes before and after lagging near a wall in the bathroom are shown.
The plumber in the kitchen explains the cost of these solutions for the future is cheaper than repairs to ceilings for future reference.
Charlie and Rita are shown in the office of the distribution manager at the water company. The manager shows them plans of the water system for their new house; the way the pipes are arranged is much more efficient. He explains how to maintain the system without it freezing, or what to do if they do leave the house for several days in cold weather. He points out the stop cocks and draining taps on the plans.
Trees on a sunny day are shown.
A construction site where the couple’s new house will be is shown.
The newly-wed couple walk up to the front door of their newly completed house. Charlie picks up Rita and carries her over the threshold.
