Bradford Borough County Crest (Labor. Omnia. Vincit.) appears at the start of the film, followed by the title card ‘City of Bradford By-Products Department presents’ and then a shot of a can that has the label ‘Bradford Sheep Marking Fluid.’
Title – Photographed and produced by F. G. Dewhirst.
Title – This is the first marking fluid to possess all the properties required by sheep farmers and the wool industry.
Title – 1 completely fast to water 2 permanently clear and bright 3 completely removed by mill scouring 4 cheap to buy – economical in use.
A farmer dunks a sheep in water, then the sheep walks into a small wooden enclosure. The sheep is marked with reddish marking fluid and a branding tool (branding: “ER” on the sheep’s side). The process is repeated with the next sheep in line, featuring a closer look at the marking fluid and the branding tool.
A sheep already branded is dunked in water and enters the pen.
Title – Bradford Sheep Marking Fluid not only withstands the weather but also dipping operations – yet it is easily removed by scouring.
Title card – The wool normally passes through at least four bowls of soap/alkali solution with a mangle between each…
Title – This abbreviated process – equivalent to a three-bowl scour – successfully removes the brand mark.
The farmer puts loose wool containing the brand mark into a water tank and gently presses it down into the water. The wet wool is put through a mangle and then back into the water again; this is repeated a few times. The wool is now clean/unbranded.
There is a shot of a stack of Bradford Sheep Marking Fluid tins. Some of the open tins reveal different colour options (red, green, blue).
Title – The End.
