The film begins on a large crowd of spectators watching an unknown event that is followed by a short animation of a larger fish eating a smaller one.

Parked next to the Benton Oval Service Station members of the Lambretta Club Northumbria and the scooters waiting for the start navigation trial. A couple sit on the ground, the man looking through a case of items. Others look over maps or prepare their scooters for the journey, another scooter is filled with petrol from the service station nearby.
The scooters begin to leave one at a time, an adjudicator signalling that they can begin the race. Generally, there are two people on each scooter, a driver and navigator, but a few depart with just the rider. Each scooter turns left out of the service station and heads out along a suburban road.
Scooters come along a narrow country road or track changes to a road sign along a moorland road. Another scooter approaches along a steep incline road. A phantom scooter ride approaching a check point where a man and three women are standing beside a car. As the scooter approaches and slows one of the women smiles and sticking out her thumb. Another scooter comes to a stop at the control point and two of the women checks the stopwatch and other details that the navigator is holding, they enter the details on a sheet of paper. Details checked the scooter departs, a third arrives pulling up beside the women.
At another control point a man and woman stand beside a small round table talking with a rider and their navigator. Nearby, a group lay on the grass verge beside the road enjoying their lunch, in the near distance a public house ‘The Jolly Drover’. Two women arrive at the check point and pass on their details before pushing their scooter towards the pub where other members of the club are parked up. Two men eating lunch in a grassy field, one turns and waves as he sees the camera.
With lunch over four of the scooters head of in a convoy, another couple arrive getting of their vehicles. At another check point scooters arrive, and details are collected by two men. One driver checks his front tyre, a couple wave at the camera as they pull away.
At another control point three men and a woman stand, one of the men in a red jumper hold an information sheet in readiness to record details. A scooter pulls up and details are recorded. Once complete the scooter pulls away. Another scooter arrives, writing on the back of a jacket worn by one of the adjudicators reads ‘Club Northumbria – Lambretta’. More scooters arrive, have their details taken and then departs.
Two scooter speed past along a country lane, those on the first vehicle wave at the camera while passing. A horse in a field changes to a road sign for Hartburn and Morpeth. A chicken crosses the road changes to a phantom car ride following a Morris Minor in front along a country road. A 30mph road sign and another for the A696 stating Ponteland is six miles away, Newcastle 13 3/4.
At another checkpoint the female navigator on a scooter uses her male companion as a table to right information down on pad. Several other scooters arrive at the control point before waving at the camera as they leave. A decorative scooter is parked on the road verge.
At Belsey scooters are parked up along the side of the road, their drivers and navigators stand nearby chatting. Outside the local post office cars are parked, more scooters arrive their details taken down by adjudicators. A couple lay on grass nearby eating ice lollies while more scooters arrive. Two young women walk quickly between the cars and scooters parked along the road.
A crowd gather around as a young man as he writes something down before shaking hands with another man. A woman in a helmet walks past, three men pick up and carry away a fourth. A scooter followed by a car pull away heading along the A696 towards Ponteland. Three men cross the road from the driveway leading to Belsey Hall. While the adjudicators look over all the sheets collected in, the scooter drivers and navigators stand around chatting. A woman leaves on her scooter.
