Description
The dupe of an amateur film showing a Mr A.E. Wood catching a fish on the river Dee near to Cairnton in Aberdeenshire on the 5th May 1935. The film begins with him preparing to go fishing followed by slow-motion footage of him casting his line into the water. Eventually a fish is caught and after being killed its weight and details are recorded on a card.
A large country house with garden and a pathway leads towards it is followed by the first of several handwritten intertitles.

A man stands beside a path or track holding out a fishing rod. A second man comes towards the first rubbing or greasing the fishing line which appears to be attached to a fence or gate a little distance away. He turns and walks back to his starting point.

Filmed in slow-motion a man stands on a small spit on the edge of the Dee casting his line into the water.

The slow-motion captures the line flicking off the surface of the water. The man on the spit casts into the water again, still in slow-motion. Now standing on a rock he continues to cast his rod filmed in slow-motion, a woman in a hat stands beside him watching.

The confluence of water in the river

The man once again casts his line into the river, he catches a bite and turns the rod towards the shore.
Title: Playing and Gaffing
He continues to pull the rod along the riverbank, the fish still attached. Two other men join him, one taking photographs of the scene while the other uses a hooked stick to capture the fish now near the shore lifting it from the water. He takes the fish up an embankment, the fisherman hits it on its head to kill it.

One of the men unhooks the fly from the fish’s mouth.

One of the men lifts the fish on a set of scales, the fisherman writes the weight on a small card which is shown giving details of where, when and what time the fish was caught as well as its weight.
The film ends on a cartoon image of a fish being served on a large platter by cherubs.
