Part two of an amateur film, this film documents a boat trip from North Yorkshire to Amsterdam taken by a couple and their friends.
Part two opens with a map showing the already travelled route to Rotterdam and then the next leg of the journey on to Gouda, via a network of rivers and canals. As the vessel makes it way up river, houses and factories line the river banks, travelling past boats moored, which include large commercial vessels. Shots capture the trip as they drift down canals, beneath a great iron bridge, and one particular view shows the filmmaker's fianc?e, Shirley, guiding the boat.
The boat then passes through a loch before arriving in Gouda, where there are views of typically Dutch bridges arching over canals. In the city there are shots of the gothic churches, houses and the streets, where the filmmaker stops to capture a man with an ornately decorated barrel organ.
Another map shows that the next leg of the journey will carry then away from Gouda into the North of Holland. Shots capture the male passengers unmooring the boat and traveling down a canal, with views of a hydraulic bridge rising to let the boat pass, Shirley waving to local children on the bank, and views of the river side housing.
As the scenery becomes more rural, the boat floats past schools of sail boats and archetypal windmills built along the land. Finally they reach Amsterdam. Scenes show the busy canals with boats moored along the banks abreast of residential housing. The passengers of the Rissala then pose for the camera on a bridge, with the women wearing flora summer dresses and the men wearing dark suits.
Another map shows the intended journey from Amsterdam to Haarlem. The group take a trip on a glass roofed boat along the canals; many house boats are moored against the banks and shots show the passengers and driver with interior views as they drift along; passing under many bridges.
Back on land and there are busy scenes in city centre with market stalls and people enjoying an alfresco coffee. A brief sequence captures schoolchildren racing down a side street with a people gathered around watching the event. Panning shots are used to illustrate the city with bustling streets populated by trams and fast moving bicycles; one shot captures the group waiting to cross a road.
Focusing on the canals, views show a rubbish barge and several people working to pull a carriage from the river. Two policemen the work to manually open a bridge and one of the officers lowers a poll with a length of string tied to a small pouch. A woman on a passing boat deposits the toll into the pouch, which the policemen reels back up. This sequence closes with a shot of two young children looking through a port hole with one boy holding a toy gun.
The next map shows the journey continuing to Haarlem. The Risalla cruises down a canal, paying the bridge toll (in the same way mentioned previously) with Shirley laughing afterwards. Their passports and documentation are then scrutinised by a military official in the vessels cabin. A brief snippet captures the group eating lunch, which consists of soup and bread. The final shots capture a busy waterway with the union jack flag - at the stern of the boat - flapping in the wind.
